18th ct Louis Quinze armchair, stamped by Père Gourdin, walnut
90 cm high x 66 cm wide x 52 cm deep
Jean 'Père' Gourdin became 'maître-menuisier' in 1714. He had his workshop in the Rue de Cléry (the street where all the carpenters had their shop). He was patronised by the Marquis de Bercy and the duchesse de Mazarin in 1737. He used his stamp untill his two sons, Jean. Baptiste and Michel were also raised to the maîtrise in 1748 and 1752. From that moment he signed his work as 'Père Gourdin'.
